|2:1||For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:|
|2:2||But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.|
|2:3||For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:|
|2:4||But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.|
|2:5||For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:|
|2:6||Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.|
|2:7||But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:|
|2:8||So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.|
|2:9||For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.|
|2:10||Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:|
|2:11||As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,|
|2:12||That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.|
[Introduction] Today’s title is “The Life that is Worthy to God.” You must always remember whether it is worthy of God or not when you live the walk of faith. The original meaning of “worthy of” is to walk straight. In today’s passage, Apostle Paul is emphasizing the question of “whether he is walking the straight path before God or not.” This was the standard of his ministry. I bless you in the name of our Lord that through today’s message, may all Yewon believers discover your spiritual standard to live the life worthy of God and experience God’s purpose by aligning your direction to the standard and making a challenge of faith.
1. The Motive to Please God
In Thessalonians 2:1-2, Apostle Paul is describing how he carried out his ministry in the region of Thessalonica. You may wonder why he mentions what the believers of Thessalonian church are fully aware of but looking at the situation, you will understand. At that time, he preached the Gospel for three weeks and established Thessalonian church. However, he had no choice but to leave because of the wicked men who were chasing after him. After him leaving, a group of traveling preachers came into the church to dilute the Gospel. That’s why he made a request to not be swayed, mentioning how he carried out his ministry in the region of Thessalonica. He reminded them that their work was not in vain and revealed what attitude they had when delivered the Gospel in verses three to four. He had no other motive in preaching the Gospel of God. He had only the attitude of Coramdeo in front of God. In verse five to six, revealing that he never came with words of flattery nor with the pretext for greed and God is witness, he emphasizes he did not seek glory from people. Also in verse nine, he says that he preached the Gospel of God working night and day. When we carry out our ministry, we must transcend the mind wanting to be acknowledged by people. Especially, it is important to enjoy the ministry. When we only have the motive to please God and put down the other motives, we can enjoy our ministry. I bless you in the name of the Lord to experience God’s purpose and be used as a spiritual hidden card before the year 2015 passes.
2. The Conscious of Spiritual Parents
In verses seven to eight, Apostle Paul reveals how he carried out his ministry as an apostle of Christ. He emphasizes that he did not ask for his prestige but he was gentle among them like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. A nursing mother actually means a mother. That means you should do the work of God with heart of mother who cares for her newborn. In verse 11 to 12, He reveals that he has done God’s work with the self-giving heart, exhorted heart, and encouraged heart charged by God’s word like a father with his children. Here, the word ‘Exhortation’ is parakaleó (παρακαλέω) in Greek. ‘Para’ means ‘side’ and ‘Kaleó’ means ‘call’. Therefore, exhortation is that you call the children to your side and teach the word of God based on the Bible when your children cannot decide correctly. What is the meaning of Holy Communion? It is the time when we are reminded that we are the ones who are saved by the redemption of the blood of Jesus Christ and become completely one in unity in Christ. We should achieve the unity of atonement, restoration and peace and preach the redemption of the cross of Jesus Christ until the Second Coming of Christ as 1 Corinthians 11:26 says. This is the life worthy of God. I hope all Yewon believers to see each other with the conscious of spiritual parents. I also hope you overlook each other’s minor lapses and encourage each other. I bless all of your family and the Yewon community in the name of the Lord to be famous as the worthiest community in front of God.
[Conclusion] There is a piece of writing titled ‘But my Lord,’ and it says, “My Lord, I will live honestly as you say. But my Lord, can we make an exception when I am in my business? I always want to worship you. But my Lord, Forgive me for skipping a Sunday service once or twice. I will take up your cross as you say. But my Lord, would it not be the same thing to buy a porter and for me to let him take up your cross?” We often have some questions starting with ‘But my Lord’. If so, you are focusing on your thoughts and standards, not on the Word of God. It is extremely dangerous because Satan infiltrates through the crack and make it a wide chasm. Even Jesus prayed as much as His own sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. In Luke 22:42, it says, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done.” On the occasion of the Holy Communion, I bless you in the name of the Lord to be witnesses to rightfully experience God’s purpose, having a life that is worthy of God started with ‘although my Lord’, not with ‘But my Lord’.
