|1:9||Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,|
|1:10||But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:|
|1:11||Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.|
|1:12||For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.|
|1:13||Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.|
|1:14||That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.|
It also applies in our walk of faith, too. Having a clear acknowledgement of the calling and appointment is directly connected to our spiritual growth. Those who take upon themselves the mission of their calling and appointment have vitality in their walk of faith. Now, for what purpose did Apostle Paul write to Timothy? It was because Timothy was losing the vitality of the spirit. with his spiritual eyes open Apostle Paul knew that it is because Timothy had forgotten his calling and appointment in his heart.
He promised us He will utilize us as the pillar of the salvation of souls and the construction of the main sanctuary. So there is no reason you should fail or be depressed when you hold on to the covenant. I hope that every single Yewon believers challenge with faith, one-heart, whole-heart, and continuation through the encouragement Apostle Paul gave Timothy in order to live a life of spiritual vitality. I bless in the name of our Lord that you become proud conquerors who live as the pillars in the temple of God.
1. A Holy Calling
Apostle Paul said God saved us not because of our works but because of his own purpose and plan, so it is a holy calling. Apostle Paul especially he emphasized that such a holy calling is God’s complete grace, which is planned by God even before the ages began. It means salvation was given not because us humans met a certain qualification or built certain credentials. When we look at the figures in the bible. Abraham was called as a fountain blessing, Moses the leader of exodus, Joshua the leader of the conquering of Canaan, Jesus’ disciples, the apostles of missionary, there seem to be no criteria for a holy calling. No doubt that it was the God’s grace of absolute sovereignty.
So we should always have a sense of grace of the holy calling according to God’s will. We should live with such a sense in order to not to get our spiritual life dried out. Simply put, make sure not to lose the thanksgiving of salvation. The Gospel that God gave us is the Gospel of life which abolished death. I bless all the Yewon believers to live the proper life according to your calling and boldly stand as the pillar of saving souls.
2. Appointment for the Gospel
Apostle Paul never lost hold of the fact for his entire life that he was appointed for the Gospel of life. We also should have this kind of awareness of mission for the Gospel.
Paul emphasized Timothy to keep the true Gospel he had emphasized before, and Paul mentioned to keep faith and love in Christ Jesus and be strengthened with the power of life. What does it mean? It means you can handle your calling and mission of the appointment after you totally change your spiritual nature. In the Bible, Onesiphorus was a classy fellow worker who remained faithful for the Gospel with Apostle Paul. He was a deacon of the Ephesus church who received Gospel by Paul and helped Paul's ministry when Paul was in Ephesus. In context, Paul said that Onesiphorus often had refreshed me. Before bible is revised, it said “cheer me up”. 'refresh me' means 'to revive by blowing new wind.' In other words, it could be a big pleasure and consolation that Onesiphorus had visited him. I hope all Yewon believers live like Onesiphorus. And I bless you to reveal your spiritual identity as a man who spreads the Gospel and get the evidence that you are a winner.
