|35:1||The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,|
|35:2||Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.|
|35:3||Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;|
|35:4||And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:|
|35:5||And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.|
|35:6||But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:|
|35:7||Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.|
|35:8||Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;|
|35:9||Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:|
|35:10||But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.|
|35:11||But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.|
Today is celebrated as a Remnant Sunday. I think that we should spend more time with our precious children and take care of them especially in the month of May, as it is the month of family. You need to grab hold onto something we need to pass down to our children.
Now we are building the main sanctuary and it will be our inheritance of faith. And the devotions that you have made will be passed down to your children as the inheritance of faith. I bless you to get the answer of what we should leave behind through today’s message and be used as a pillar of God’s temple.
1. Inheritance of Faith to Leave Behind
The people of Rechabites in the today’s passage were the descendants of Moses` father-in-law Jethro. They continued to follow the ways of the Israelites after Exodus. When they took refugee in Jerusalem, the Word of God came to Jeremiah. That was to go to the house of the Rechabites and then offer them to drink wine. So Jeremiah followed the order. However, the people of the Rechabites refused to drink; emphasizing their forefather Jonadabm’s command, which is ‘neither you nor your descendants must ever drink wine.’
Jonadab lived in the age of Jehu, the king of northern Israel and joined to exterminate those who belonged to Ahab and kill those who worshiped Baal when Jehu did religious reformations in Israel. And he made a few important commands to keep his descendants from leaving the faith of Jehovah. One of the commands was not to drink wine.
The age when we are living has been more corrupt than the age when the Israelites were living. So we need to provide our children with how they can decide on their way to live and what is the proper way to God's plan and also to give them a correct guide. I bless all Yewon parents to leave behind your pure faith to your children.
2. Inheritance of Faith to Keep
God told the descendants of Rechab to drink wine to show the people of Judah, who didn't comply with God's word, that if they didn't comply with God's word, God could show them how he could take action.
The people of Rechab, who kept their spiritual inheritance intact, honored their forefathers and served God, thus, God had given them a special blessing. Simply put, when you properly relay God's covenant to your descendants, your future generations will be given God's blessing.
Exodus 20:5-6 shows how great the size of the blessing is given when you keep the word of God. Our children are suffering from a tough competition at school and even at kindergarten. What makes them overcome their situation is the Gospel, the word of God. We have the mission to keep the life of the Gospel and deliver it to the next generation so that our children receive ‘the answer of 1,000 years’ by enjoying the Gospel in any situation like the 7 Remnants.
‘Boutros Boutros Ghali’ was the first UN secretary general from Africa and named after his grandfather, Ghali, who was Christian prime minister of Egypt, the country of Islam. He was assassinated in the 2nd Year from designation of prime minister. Having the will to inherit their grandfather’s faith, his family gave his name to Ghali and ‘Boutros Boutros Ghali’ devoted himself to building.
I hope all Yewon Remnants to grow as the ones who exert good influence everywhere they go. Remember your heritage of faith is what we make our Remnants stand firmly in every field as the main figure of faith, which is our given heavenly mandate.
