|4:1||I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;|
|4:2||Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.|
|4:3||For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;|
|4:4||And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.|
|4:5||But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.|
As May is the month of “family”, you have to really examine if your family is truly gospelized. There are two meanings within the word of “gospelizaion”. One is that all the family members receive the blessing of salvation through the life of Jesus Christ. The other meaning is that every single family member becomes Gospel natured and truly enjoy the complete blessing of oneness. Today, we read the 56thresponsivereading,whichisPsalm128.Ihopethatyourfamilywouldbelikethatkindoffamily.AsPsalm128:3says,“Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.” I hope that this is fulfilled in your families and that may every step that you take is for gospelization and that may you receive true evidences in your life.
1. Preaching the Word
Read Verses 1-2. What is the point of this message? It says, "preach the word; be ready in season and out of season," In this scripture reading, the word 'word' refers to the Gospel of salvation, which is given by crucifying and the resurrection of Jesus. It talks about the uniqueness of salvation that is only given by Jesus Christ. And the word 'preaching' means to 'preach before the mass of people. It means that we should boldly preach to everyone the way of salvation, that Jesus Christ had fulfilled. Paul especially said we should always try hard to preach the Gospel, whether it is in season or out of season, no matter whether the situation is easy to preach the Gospel or not. No matter, if you want to preach the Gospel or not, no matter if people listen to you or not. We have the mission to preach the true Gospel in every situation. May all Yewon believers have realistic blessings through the biblical life of preaching the Word of God.
2. The Duty of an Evangelist
Paul is intensively telling us that there is the necessity of having a spiritual tension, mentioning what will happen in the Last Days. What is the main feature of the Last Days? It is that the people in the world will lose their attention to the righteous teachings of Jesus Christ. The omen of the Last Days is that people follow philosophy, heretical thoughts and sophistry in the tendency to the worldly pleasure, rather than seeking and worshiping God. I hope you have spiritual discernment.
In verse 5, what we can see here is Paul making sure that Timothy’s spirit stays awake and completes his ministry given by God, even in the last days. When Paul says “do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry,” he means “complete everything that God wants from you.” He wants us to fulfill our calling, mission and the Heavenly Mandate whole-heartedly, and also to do his best at spreading the Word as an evangelist. I hope all that Yewon believers take to heart knowing that God saved you to make you the true evangelists. Therefore I bless you in the name of our Lord that may you be the conquering witnesses.
You need to able to see how the evangelist’s words effects people’s lives.
It is not about the way you look, you just go as a witness. What is a witness? A witness tells what he had experienced, saw, or heard. But a lot of people misjudge this. You are witnesses, so your job is to just go and tell them what you know. Do you know what happened after the gospel was declared? In Acts 4:4 it is written that about five thousands of men came to God. I bless all the Yewon believers in the name of our Lord that may you step forward to proclaim Jesus Christ, who resides within you in order to have the story to tell in becoming the reliable pillar of the temple of our God.
