We’re going to look at 1 John starting this Sunday. 1 John was a letter written by Jesus’ disciple John. As disciple John was called as an apostle of love, 1 John is called a letter of love. There was something that he always encouraged to the believers of the Ephesian church to do. That was “Young children, let us love each other.” Then, the believers were tired of it and asked him why he kept saying the same thing. Here is Apostle John’s answer. “This is what the Lord ordered us to do.” and “It should be enough if you put this into action.” There’re two meanings to this. First, it is to actually become unified with the life and love of Christ Jesus. The other thing to think about is if you love one other with such love. I hope all Yewon believers fully experience God’s love and the fellowship of life built through 1 John which we’re going to look at starting this week. I bless you in the name of God that you become an important part of church and get the answers of being used as a pillar of the local, ethnic and world evangelism.
1. Christ Who is Life
The word of life which is mentioned in today’s scripture tells Jesus Christ. The life is called zoe in Greek. Its meaning is the essence and foundation of presence. In other words, Jesus Christ himself is life which is the origin of all things and gives them life. In 1 John 1:2. 2the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us—. The life was made manifest means ephanerothe. That means 'to reveal and manifest surely existing presence.' Christ who had existed before the creation of the world was made manifest to us according to God's schedule and plan. John told that he saw and proclaimed this eternal Jesus Christ who is life. As children of God, we should have deeper spiritual mutual communication having a fellowship of life with Jesus Christ. We should realize the width, length, height, and depth of the love of Jesus Christ. The width, of his love is revealed by the love of the cross. And the length is the unending love which is from before the creation to the eternal. The height is the love which had saved us from the pit of despair and death, then made us higher to the throne of heaven. And the depth of his love is revealed through his crucification. I hope all Yewon believers in the name of the Lord, to experience this love of Christ day by day, in whatever circumstances may come. Therefore, live a classy and biblical walk of faith telling this love as time passes.
2. Unity of Fellowship
John shows in detail how the life which met Jesus Christ who is the life should be. The important word from here is ‘fellowship’. In Greek it means a relationship. The reason why the apostles staked their lives and preached the Gospel was to restore the fellowship between God and men through Jesus Christ. John clearly tells us that the natural thing for Christian fellowship is enjoying the communication of life with the Father God and the Son Jesus Christ. The joy may be complete in this kind of fellowship of life. And it is biblical that this fellowship of the life with the Lord takes place between believers.
Apostle John relays the fellowship of life with the Lord that he tasted to the believers and also encouraged other believers to have this kind of fellowship with each other. The fellowship of life with Jesus Christ which John mentioned about in today`s passage is called ‘forum’ to other believers and also called evangelism to the non-believers. So evangelism is the restoration of fellowship of life with Jesus Christ. We should be spiritually aware of such crisis. Building the spiritual view is nothing but ‘Yewon Unity‘ has become ‘Life Fellowship Unity‘. Early Church shows this unity in Act 2:46-47. I bless in the name of the Lord that you be the Gospel Unity that the restoration of life is continuously occurred by this beautiful life-fellowship when new people come.
Conclusion> Tertullian, the father of Early Church used one expression when he evangelized the people at that time.
